I’ve been on a mission to ban all the orange woodwork from our home, and the laundry room was next on my list. (Hubby, aren’t you happy it’s on my list and not on yours?!!) After painting the woodwork, walls and ceiling, I wanted something cheap and cheerful to hang on the walls.
I found vintage laundry images on The Graphic Fairy website, which I’m sure you know is a great resource for FREE graphics. I printed the images on this awesome paper, which I cut down to 8 1/2 by 11 to fit my printer. The prints were getting a bit lost on the wall, so I attached them to black cardstock before hanging.
Simple, right? The paper comes from this awesome book, “Civil War Extra” which is reproductions of actual newspaper articles that were published during the Civil War. Can you believe I scored two of these at a garage sale for $1.00?!! Sweeeeet. (Old dictionaries or reference books would also work for this project.)
I haven’t used slack/skirt hangers like this since I left the law firm—–ohhhhhh, about 18 years ago!! Fortunately, Ross sells an 8 pack for only $5.99 — Since I first did this project, I actually found some vintage hangers at a garage sale for 25 cents a piece!!! My Sweet Daughter is quite the artist, and these hangers are an easy way to display your child’s latest masterpiece. And of course you’re not limited to just the laundry room or laundry room images. I think these hangers would be adorable in a nursery, by a child’s dresser, mud room, guest room, etc.
Laundry Room Before and After
Years ago I had painted the laundry room cabinets to “practice” before tackling the kitchen cupboards. But the laundry room doors and windows were still “orange”. The ceiling and walls were also long over due for a freshen up.
So that’s my “new” laundry room. While I won’t go so far as to say, “it’s so pretty, I don’t even mind doing laundry” blah, blah, blah. That that would be a
lie stretch. But at least I no longer cringe when I come in from the garage. 😀 It’s definitely a lighter and brighter space, and that’s all I wanted. Take care, Cynthia
