“Tis the Season to be jolly ….. FA LA LA LA LA …. LA LA LA LA”!!

Clockworkinteriors.com - fa la la la la ... la la la la reindeer banner

If you’re here for a furniture Before and After, I’m sorry to disappoint.   Sadly, painting in a cold, damp garage just isn’t very appealing right now.   But popping in A Christmas Story and getting my craft on while Sweet Daughter sews is my kind of Holiday fun!   😀   I’ve been making Christmas ornaments like crazy!  They’re all really “doable”, (and SO cute!) and I’ll share them just as soon as I get my house decorated!

Although I’ve done a little bit of decorating, and thought you might find some inspiration in the easiest Christmas banner ever!  A couple years ago, I purchased these reindeer at Lowe’s after Christmas sale for 90% off retail.  And they typically pranced around my dining room chandelier every December.   (FYI:  Dollar Tree currently has very similar reindeer and other glitter ornaments for sale.)

I’m trying to change things up a bit this Christmas, and when I saw these chalkboard banners in Target’s dollar section, I knew my shiny reindeer had found a new home this Holiday Season.

Because it had taken my Flintstone fingers forever to attach the ridiculously thin silver thread that came with the reindeer, (you know the kind, right??!) I wasn’t willing to just cut it off.   So, I simply taped the thread to the back of the banner …. staggering the deer a bit ….. nothing permanent.   Who knows?  Maybe next year they’ll make it to “The Big Show” and actually be hung on a real Christmas tree!!  And, yes, that was an Elf reference …. another holiday favorite!  😀

Did I mention it’s a chalkboard banner?   Coming up with what to draw on it was easy …  Remember The Christmas Story I referenced earlier?  It has always been one of my favorite Christmas films.   When we moved to England, my sweet friend, Tracy, gifted me with my very own copy just in case they don’t have TNT in the UK, or don’t choose to play it round the clock every Christmas!   (Great call, Mrs. M … we never had more than 3 TV channels the whole time we lived there, and TNT wasn’t one of them!!)

If you’re familiar with the movie, (and I hope you are!) you probably remember the Christmas Duck and the singing waiters??!   Well, we’ve had Christmas Duck …

Peking Duck to be exact … (minus the singing).   Christmas of 2013 Hubby was working in Beijing, and the Gremlins and I were fortunate enough to fly over and spend three weeks with him.    How did we spend our Christmas Eve??  Eating Peking Duck of course!

See the table runner  scarf I am wearing??!!  It was bought on that trip, and it has been known to dress up our kitchen table, as well as a sweater or blouse or two!!  Seeing it on the table brought back so many fun memories …..

So of course I had to write “FA LA LA LA LA ……LA LA LA LA!” …. 😀

The fireplace in our family room is very casual and rustic …. and I think my $2 banner looks pretty cute hanging there.

And just because he’s better than cute and a very special bear in this household …. I’d like to introduce you to Peef … who looks pretty good for being 18 years old!  It must be the magic of Christmas!  😀

On to more crafting … with Sweet Daughter … and maybe a little It’s a Wonderful Life or Love Actually??!!   Hope your week is just as lovely!  Cynthia

  1. Very cute banner and enjoyed the story that went along with it! Enjoy decorating, watching a holiday movie, and family time this weekend Cynthia!

  2. I have to admit that I don’t really like ‘A Christmas Story’, give me White Christmas or Love Actually, but I do love to bake and craft away while a Christmas movie is playing on the television, particularly if it is one I have seen something like a hundred times, so it is okay if I miss a few minutes or more! This is so creative, I do envy you crafty types! I will be pinning and sharing over at FB and Twitter! Thank you for sharing at Celebrate Your Story!

  5. I am currently obsessed with reindeer and love this banner! Hopefully I can find the banner kit and Target, the goodies in the dollar bin tend to disappear quickly. Enjoy your crafting and the holidays!

    • They sure do, don’t they?! If you can’t find the $1 banners, you sure could make one easy enough! Snow flakes would also look great … and they’re easier to find! Good luck and Marry Christmas!

  6. Love the chalkboard banner and your trip looks like it was fun!

  7. Oh I just love this banner! I’d seen the chalkboard pieces a target and now wished I’d bought them! The black goes great with the sparkly silver. A girl’s gotta love sparkly, right?
